Awareness Glasses

The humans have always ever affected the climate, but never as intensely and radically as nowadays. Public awareness has already been sensitised for this issue in the last few years. Nevertheless it´s quite complicated to give people an understanding of these intangible issues like air pollution, water pollution or noise disturbance and act against it.
Our team is highly interested in making these topics and the green environment tangible for the general public.

These projects primarily concentrate on Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz and the immediate vicinity.

The first project provides a widely spread overview of these problems in Mainz und Rheinland-Pfalz.
The second project concentrates on a specific place and enables viewers to recognized the current situation of their local and visible environment.

Awareness Glasses

Looking through the glasses at local places, e.g. at the Rhein promenade, should enable the viewers to recognize the problems of water pollution, air pollution and noise disturbance, which are mostly linked to a bustling cityscape.
By looking through the glasses, the user sees his current environment overlaid with digital information (augmented reality). The information refers to the objects within the visual field.

Additionally, the user can take part in quizzes to get an understanding of his actions and the consequences. The quiz result comes along with suggestions for their everyday life. The glasses exist in two different heights therefore adults as well as children can use the product.

The view of the environment will be recorded with the integrated camera. It will also be displayed on the screen inside and overlaid with further information. The added glasses serve as a control element.

Awareness Table

The table is located in the theatre square in combination with five seats. The whole product is not orientated to the architectural townscape, but is in line with the 50th latitude north and cross the “Ludwigsstraße”.
At first glance, the overall picture shows a sculptural impression to the pedestrian; only when the viewer looks at it in more detail, does he discover its functionality.

The solid table with its flexible display allows the user to receive information in an entertaining way. The seats and the sub-frame of the table are made of concrete. To prevent damage the display is mounted in a steel frame and covered with security glass. By means of a ball-and-socket joint the display can be turned in all directions at a particular angle.

To make humans aware of their green environment they should be taught in a simplified way. The visualization of air pollution, noise level and water quality makes an indicator at a certain place necessary.
The desktop can be inclined. A ball rolls virtually across the table and can be holed whereby information pops up. The simplified illustration in terms of pictograms, graphics and pictures demonstrates the users problems and is intended to get them thinking.
